Our conversations about the Quran vs the Bible

I had a good Conversation over some time with a Muslim friend about the Quran vs the Bible that I want to share with you...

My Muslim friend (He): I am not dismissing what the Bible reveals. As a Muslim I have no problem in reading the Bible & extracting valuable lessons from it. There are many passages I could accept & implement in my life.

Myself (Me): My friend, Fact is, the message of the two books are very different and teach some very opposing material.

Me: Lets just look to some examples. Both the Quran and the Bible proclaim Jesus as the Messiah - but with big differences; Which one is correct?

In the Quran the name of Jesus used is "Isa", as he is known in Arabic, who is deemed by Islam to be a Muslim prophet rather than the Son of God, or God incarnate. He is referred to by that name in as many as 25 different verses of the Quran and described as the "Word" and the "Spirit" of God.

The term al-Masih (the Messiah) occurs eleven times in Quran. Lets look at three of those verses in which the term appear...

  • Q3:45 When the angels said: “O Mary! Allah gives you the good news of a Word from Him, whose name is the Messiah, Jesus son of Mary, who is illustrious in this world and the hereafter, and who is one of those brought near [to Allah].

[For me this sounds to an agreement with the Bible!]

  • Q4:157 And because of their saying: “We killed the Messiah, Jesus son of Mary, Allah’s messenger.” They did not kill or crucify him, but it was made to appear so to them. Those who disagree concerning it are in doubt thereof; they have no knowledge thereof, but a conjecture they follow; they did not kill him for certain.

[This is totally different with the Bible where the crucifixion of Jesus is a central theme throughout the New Testament or the Injil]

  • Q4:171 O People of the Book! Commit no excesses in your religion or utter anything concerning Allah but the truth. The Messiah, Jesus son of Mary, was only a messenger of Allah, His Word that He sent to Mary, and a Spirit from Him [that He sent]. So believe in Allah and His messengers, and do not say “Three.” Desist, it is better for you! Allah is one God. Far exalted is He above having offspring. His is all that is in the heavens and all that is on the earth. Allah is sufficient a disposer of affairs.

[This is in agreement with the Bible that Jesus is the Messiah, but the Messiah of the Bible is much more than only a messenger or a prophet]

[Note: Let's leave the Trinity out in this debate for now, although Quran, out of the blue, claim "Do not say 'Three'" and "Allah is one God"; It's a total new debate for another time.]

What does the Bible teach about Jesus?

His Name: Jesus' name in Hebrew  יֵשׁוּעַ‎ "Yeshua" is a late form of the Biblical Hebrew name יְהוֹשֻׁעַ‎ Yehoshua (Joshua), and spelled with a waw in the second syllable. Both the full form Yehoshua and the abbreviated form Yeshua was in use during the Gospel period, which translates to English as Joshua

Thus the Bible use this word (that originate already in the Old Testament many many times) for the name of Jesus of Nazareth as the prophesied Messiah (Luke 4:17–21; John 4:25–26).

The first time where Jesus's name was mentioned in the New Testament is in Matthew 1:21-21 "an angel of the Lord appeared to him (Joseph) in a dream and said, “Joseph son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary home as your wife, because what is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit. She will give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus, (where Jesus is the Greek form of Joshua, which means 'the Lord saves')  because he will save his people from their sins.”

Throughout the New Testament, we see proof that Jesus is the Messiah (the Christ, meaning "Chosen One" or Anointed One, all different meanings of the word Messiah)

  • “These [miracles] are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name” (John 20:31).
  • We also hear testimonies that Jesus is “the Messiah, the Son of the living God” (Matthew 16:16).
  • The ultimate evidence that Jesus is indeed the promised Messiah, the Anointed One, is His resurrection from the dead. Acts 10:39–43 is an eyewitness testimony to His resurrection and the fact that “he is the one whom God appointed as judge of the living and the dead.”

What must we conclude?

Fact is, the message of the two books are very different and teach some very opposing material. The most important one may be about the Death of Jesus (Quran: "they did not kill or crucify him, but it was made to appear so to them"). How on earth is it possible that Quran reject this while...(From my post about this on Facebook)

💥All over the World, Passover was celebrated a few weeks ago.✝️💞👋

💢The biggest tragedy however, is that, although it's a historically proven fact and proclaimed throughout the entire Bible or Injil - 😊The crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus Christ to be the Saviour of the World -✝️
But...
🤔But  s rejected by Muslims due to only one small Surah in the Quran S4:157 with that very difficult and uncertain statement "It was made to appear like that to them" as the only source. (Read the whole post on Facebook here...

Conclusion: Definitely, Both can't be right! Both can't be the truth!

Therefore...  One of those two is FALSE! ?

He: I agree, both can't be right and that's why we must agree to disagree.

Me: Friend, everybody must make this responsible and most important decision for himself. Which one is the TRUTH?

But not as an emotional choice (not allowed to question or disagree with my scholars), or like a #Parrot_Muslim (somebody that just repeat what their scholars told them, without any knowledge of the facts or search for the truth themselves)

He: Then I hold the Quran as the yardstick to ascertain truth from falsehood.

Me: That's your choice! I made my decision long ago! Most important, you will agree, is to live in total peace and certainty that I will have eternal life with God after I die. That was after I did what Acts 17:11  says... "Now the Berean Jews were of more noble character than those in Thessalonica, for they received the message with great eagerness and examined the Scriptures every day to see if what Paul said was true."

May be this can help you in this...

He: The above link of you has all been refuted, both by Muslim Scholars & academics of various backgrounds.

Me: Friend, to make such a statement "this has all been refuted" without any proof, is worth nothing and can even be a lie. That's on your conscience to belief this. (I actually found this claim as one of those #Parrot_Muslim statements)

If I were you, I will make very sure if this is the truth. Your "Muslims Scholars" will (for obvious reasons) refuting this - but to claim that "Scholars and academics of various backgrounds" had refuted this...?

Many Muslims did it! They start reading and studying the Bible (not just using the few verses that they know to proof their point of debate)

Welcome to study the Bible with a Group of us on WhatsApp?

Alkitab - A Bible course specially developed for Muslims who want to know more about the Bible as mentioned in the Quran (Sura 10:94)

(Note: This course is not a detailed study of the Bible and its teaching. It will, however, provide a foundation on which your further studies can be built, to compare this also with the Qur'an.

Welcome to join our Group here...   https://chat.whatsapp.com/GXD36qOgB8i5pMPWEdlsqC

This lady did this. She started studying the Bible.

What did she find? Look to her video...  https://youtu.be/ontVGKS_HjA

I see myself also as a scholar that did a lot of research about Islam, the Quran, the Bible etc. I haven't found any proof of lies in any of what is published on this website of "Answering-Islam".

(You can find most of my own researched results on this Blog; Welcome to look at it and sifting the truth from the lies; Welcome to disagree and to debate and proof to me if I am wrong - go to https://islam-factsandmyths.blogspot.com/  )

The scholars that published on this website "Answering-Islam" are all handpicked as learned and experienced scholars, most of them with a lot of experience with Islam, the Quran (from the original Arab language); many of them are Ex-Muslims that once served Islam with dedication until their eyes opened for the truth...

You can listen to personal testimonies from many of them on our Blog at... https://islam-factsandmyths.blogspot.com/p/testimonies.html

Lastly... May I wish all our Muslims friends the blessing of God and Messiah Jesus during your Ramadan period.

May He reveals Himself to each one of you for His Glory and honour alone.

Amen! 🙋‍♂️
